A top AEW star returned to in-ring action for the first time since December 2023 this past weekend. His performance inside the squared circle led to a popular journalist urging Tony Khan to put the world title on the 41-year-old soon.
At the Wrestle Dynasty event that took place on January 5, top star Kenny Omega made his return to in-ring action. The Cleaner had been recovering from diverticulitis and was absent from in-ring duties last year, but he did make a few appearances on weekly programming in May 2024. The former world champion returned at Worlds End last month.
Instead of choosing to make his return to the ring in AEW, Kenny Omega chose to lock horns with NJPW’s Gabe Kidd at the Wrestle Dynasty PPV. The showdown between the two stars was nothing short of a blockbuster that captivated the audience in the Tokyo Dome like no other.
After witnessing The Cleaner’s magnificent performance, Dave Meltzer gave his opinion on Wrestling Observer Radio. The veteran journalist was so impressed by Kenny Omega that he urged Tony Khan to put the AEW World Title on The Best Bout Machine right away. Meltzer called it an “unbelievable performance” and christened Omega as the “God of everything” in the ring.
âI watched this and was like, âDude, just make this guy AEW Champion.â You know what I mean? I donât even know if thatâs really the right idea, but Iâm watching this going, like, âThis guy should just be the God of everything [laughs]!â It was an unbelievable performance!â he said. Kenny Omega’s first return appearance came at AEW Worlds End 2024
While Kenny Omega chose to make his in-ring return in Japan, his first appearance since recovering from his ailment came at Worlds End 2024.
The Cleaner returned to confront his long-time rival, Kazuchika Okada, after The Rainmaker won the 2024 Continental Classic. Omega presented him with the Continental Championship after his stellar showdown against Will Ospreay.
It will be interesting to see if Kenny Omega goes after Kazuchika Okada in the coming weeks.
