Triple H revealed his immediate recognition of Roman Reigns’ star potential during their first meeting in WWE’s developmental system. The Chief Content Officer shared details of this encounter during a recent appearance on The Roommates Show.
Reigns joined WWE in 2010, transitioning from a football career at Georgia Tech to FCW developmental territory. The current Bloodline leader, initially known as Leakee, worked through the developmental system overseen by Triple H and wrestling legend Dusty Rhodes.
“The first time I ever met Roman Reigns, I had just taken over and sort of started what would become our developmental system,” Triple H recalled. “He had just transitioned over from football to being in our developmental system, and the first day I met him, I sat down with him for like 20 minutes just to get to know him a little bit.”
Triple H expressed his immediate confidence in Reigns’ potential to Dusty Rhodes after the meeting. “If that kid’s not the biggest star we ever have in ten years, I don’t know what we’re doing. Like… holy s**t, he’s got everything,” he told Rhodes. “When he walked in the room, you couldn’t help but look and go, ‘Who’s that?’ He has an innate X-factor charisma.”
The two competitors have faced each other six times in the ring. Reigns defeated Triple H at WrestleMania 32 to win the World Heavyweight Championship, and their final singles match took place in Abu Dhabi in December 2017, where Reigns retained the Intercontinental Championship.
Reigns is scheduled to return to action on January 6 at WWE RAW’s Netflix premiere in Los Angeles, facing Solo Sikoa in a Tribal Combat match for the Ula Fala. The event will also feature CM Punk versus Seth Rollins and an appearance by John Cena.
