Paul “Triple H” Levesque recalled the conversation he had with CM Punk before his return to WWE in 2023. Punk came back to the company after nearly 10 years away during the Survivor Series, following prior discussions with Nick Khan and Triple H.
Triple H has a history of mending delicate relationships in the WWE, as he did with Bruno Sammartino before his return and Hall of Fame induction in 2013. In an interview on the SI Media podcast, Triple H shared details about his initial conversation with Punk.
In his interview, Triple H addressed the possibility of engaging in conversations with other talents about potential returns.
There are people who, by their actions, you just can’t help but think it would be negative. No matter how you slice it, it would be negative. But I would always be open to conversation, no matter who it is.
During the specific conversation with Punk, Triple H recalled:
When Punk and I were having these conversations with Nick, one of the first things I said was, ‘I want to clear the air. I’m not the same person I was 10-15 years ago. If I was, I would have wasted all this time. I’ve grown, I’ve changed, I have a different point of view. I believe you’re not the same person you were 10 years ago either. Let’s start from that and let go of all the other negative thoughts, real or imagined. Let’s start from scratch and talk about doing business together. If we don’t have a common goal, that’s fine, it’s just business. If we do, great, let’s do something great together.’
