Update on major change to WWE SmackDown (Exclusive)
WWE’s deal with Netflix will kickstart in January 2025 and a plethora of changes in the Stamford-based company’s programming is being anticipated. RAW shifted to the two-hour format last month, and a lot of questions related to the show’s future format have surfaced on the internet.
Moreover, reports of WWE SmackDown changing its format have also made their way into the headlines, leaving a lot of questions unanswered. Previously, it was reported that the blue brand would change its programming format from two hours to three hours very soon.
According to WrestleVotes on a live Q&A with Bill Apter on Backstage Pass, WWE SmackDown would indeed turn into a three-hour show very soon. However, that would be the case for just a few months. The first week of June 2025 might turn things around once again, with the blue brand returning to the two-hour format:
“Yeah, that’s happening. 3 hours every Friday night on USA, yes. That’s only for 6 months. I asked what’s the situation there. But, come June 5th or 6th, the first Friday in June, the show goes back to two hours.” [40:04 onwards]
While a potential three-hour RAW and SmackDown would need a lot of new additions to the roster for sure, it would ensure a lot more development in storylines and rivalries. Fans will have to wait and see what Triple H has planned after both the company’s main roster shows switch to three-hour formats.
