Former WWE head writer Vince Russo explained Vince McMahon’s decision to feature Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg prominently in championship roles.
Russo addressed the controversial booking choices during a recent appearance on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Writing With Russo.
The discussion centered on significant title changes, including Lesnar’s seven-second victory over Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship on SmackDown’s FOX debut in 2019, and Goldberg’s Universal Championship reigns in 2017 and 2020.
“Bro, I don’t think he dropped the ball because he had no other choice because they’re not over,” Russo told host Dr. Chris Featherstone. “But they’re not over because of the company. I mean, they’re not over because of him. They’re not over because of Triple H. That’s why they’re not over, so he had no other choice but to do what he did, but that doesn’t solve your problem of people not being over.”
