John Cena announced his Retirement Tour at the 2024 WWE Money in the Bank PLE. The Franchise Player stated that 2025 would be his last year as a pro wrestler, as he would hang up his boots after the completion of his 12-month-long Farewell Tour.
The Cenation Leader is expected to make 35-40 appearances as a part of his Farewell Tour. All of his upcoming matches are set to take place in WWE for obvious reasons. But what if John’s last match happens in AEW? Who would be a perfect opponent from Tony Khan’s roster for his last bout? Here are a few possible options:
#5. Cope (FKA Edge) and John Cena had an epic rivalry in the 2000s
Cope (FKA Edge) and John Cena were bitter rivals in WWE in the mid to late 2000s. The Rated R Superstar won his first world title in the Stamford-based promotion by cashing in his Money in the Bank contract on The Doctor of Thuganomics in 2006.
Cena was a classic babyface, and the erstwhile Edge was a typical heel in their feud. Pro Wrestling Illustrated even rewarded the rivalry with the “Feud of the Year” award in 2006. The veterans wrestled many times inside the ring throughout their careers. Cena going up against the former Edge in his last match would be an ideal way for him to retire.
#4. Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho is another star with whom John Cena feuded in the 2000s. Like always, The Greatest of All Time was the babyface, and Y2J portrayed the heel character. The two fought over the WWE Championship a few times, with Cena dominating the ledger.
Cena and Jericho are two of the biggest stars in the pro wrestling industry. Their match would be a huge draw among fans.
#3. Max Caster
In his early days, John Cena adopted a new freestyle rapper character called The Doctor of Thuganomics. He used to mock other wrestlers during his rap promos. Max Caster has a similar persona in AEW, where he uses a rapper gimmick to insult his rivals and opponents.
Caster is notorious for picking random fights with people he dislikes. He could call out Cena, thus starting a new rivalry and becoming The Franchise Player’s final opponent.
#2. Bryan Danielson
John Cena didn’t engage in a rivalry with Bryan Danielson as he did with other WWE veterans mentioned above. However, at SummerSlam 2013, he did have a spectacular match against The American Dragon. They had a singles match for the WWE Championship, with Triple H serving as a special guest referee.
Pro Wrestling Illustrated later adjudged it as the Match of the Year. If the two stars lock horns once again, they can repeat history if The American Dragon returns from his hiatus.
#1. Kenny Omega
John Cena and Kenny Omega are both considered legends in their respective promotions. Both have accomplished a lot in their careers, thanks to their sheer talent and temperament.
But unfortunately, fans never got to see these super-talented wrestlers square off inside the ring. Cena’s Farewell Tour is set to start tonight on RAW, and The Franchise Player battling The Best Bout machine before his retirement would be a dream scenario for the wrestling community.
