WWE will hold a new episode of SmackDown this Friday at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. The show, which maintains its new three-hour format, will feature a WWE Women’s United States Championship defense as the main attraction of the night.
Chelsea Green will make her first WWE Women’s United States Championship defense against Michin. WWE confirmed the match through its social media channels, also marking the first defense of the new women’s title.
SmackDown will also feature Tiffany Stratton’s first promo as the new WWE Women’s Champion. Stratton surprised audiences in the last episode by helping Nia Jax in her title defense, only to attack her after the match and successfully cash in her Money in the Bank contract.
The possibility of AJ Styles’ return gains momentum for SmackDown. Current WWE United States Champion, Shinsuke Nakamura, will defend his title against LA Knight, and rumors indicate a possible appearance by Styles after the match.
Styles has been sidelined since October due to a Lisfranc foot injury suffered during a match against Carmelo Hayes. Recently, he was seen without crutches or an orthopedic boot, signaling a positive recovery.
Nakamura has dominated SmackDown since his return in November. Styles’ possible intervention after the United States Championship match could initiate a rivalry between the two, strengthening the mid-card division during the Road to WrestleMania.
