WWE faces unique broadcasting arrangements for SmackDown’s first episode of 2025 due to transitioning television contracts. The January 3 episode will stream on YouTube in most international markets, bridging a gap between expiring TV deals and Netflix’s new broadcasting rights.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reports that while SmackDown continues on USA Network in the United States, most international markets will experience a brief transition period before Netflix begins carrying the show on January 10.
“So there’s a January 3rd SmackDown show that airs everywhere but the United States, pretty much,” Meltzer explained. “WWE will be putting the SmackDown show up on YouTube that week.”
The transition marks a significant shift in WWE’s global distribution strategy. Netflix’s partnership begins with RAW on January 6, followed by NXT on January 7, and SmackDown on January 10 for international audiences. Select markets, including Germany and the Philippines, maintain separate broadcasting arrangements.
