WWE Has No Plans For Alberto Del Rio Return

Despite WWE’s recent acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, the company reportedly has no plans to feature former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio in its programming.

Speculation regarding Del Rio’s status increased after WWE purchased the Mexican promotion in April. At the time of the acquisition, Del Rio was the reigning AAA Mega Champion, a title he has since lost to El Hijo del Vikingo. The subsequent crossover between the promotions, highlighted by the Worlds Collide event, fueled discussion about a potential Del Rio return.

However, a report from Cory Hays of Bodyslam.net states that WWE is adamant about not utilizing Del Rio. According to the report, there is believed to be zero chance of him returning to the company.

Del Rio has had two separate tenures with WWE. He initially signed in 2009 and stayed until his firing in 2014. He later returned for another run in 2015, which ended with his release in 2016.
