WWE legend comments on potentially clotheslining Cody Rhodes (Exclusive)

Cody Rhodes has solidified himself as one of the biggest draws for WWE. The American Nightmare has had an incredibly successful 2024. There’s no denying his fans are looking forward to how Cody will write his story in the New Year.

During a recent edition of Live Q&A on Backstage Pass, JBL was asked if he would be coming back to deliver his iconic clothesline finisher to Cody Rhodes. The former WWE Champion joked he’d be happy to hit Rhodes with his finisher.

“Absolutely. Are you kidding me? That’s the freaking Holy Grail. That’s the guy you want to clothesline. That’s there’s a lot of money tied to that clothesline. I would do that happily.” [From 03:38 onwards]

JBL complemented Rhodes for taking over Roman Reigns’ spot as the top champion, noting that he couldn’t be more proud of The American Nightmare for what he’s achieved in WWE.

“Cody is doing a fantastic job. I could not be more proud of Cody. I love Cody and he’s just, you know, taking over after Roman Reigns had a reign that was the most dominant we’ve seen since Bruno Sammartino. Nobody thought you’d see something like that again. To follow that is really tough. Cody Rhodes has followed it and taking WWE to a new level,” he said. “You know, Warrior could not follow Hogan, guys could not follow Sammartino, but Cody has done an incredible job. I don’t know who could follow Cody. I don’t got anybody who could, but I wouldn’t mind clotheslining him.” [From 03:54 onwards]

Cody Rhodes will run it back with Kevin Owens for the Undisputed WWE Championship at the 2025 Royal Rumble. It remains to be seen which of these two superstars will reach the top of the ladder to unhook the title.
