Dominik Mysterio secured a World Heavyweight Championship match against Gunther following his victory over Damian Priest on RAW. The Judgment Day member clinched the opportunity with assistance from his stablemates in the main event.

“I remember bringing it up one time when Dom and I were working together, I brought it up to Vince and it was brief. Like maybe I turn on Dom and we continue with something along the ways. But getting feedback from some of my colleagues, like no, you’re the babyface that could never be a heel. Like you’re Ricky Steamboat, nobody can ever see you as a heel, I don’t think they would buy into it,” Rey Mysterio previously revealed to Chris Van Vliet, discussing a potential character shift.

The upcoming championship match presents an opportunity for Rey Mysterio to potentially alter his career trajectory. The Hall of Famer’s current role with LWO has shown limited progression, leading to speculation about possible involvement in his son’s championship pursuit.

Rey Mysterio and John Cena remain the only WWE performers who have maintained face alignments throughout their careers. A potential alliance between father and son could mark Rey’s first heel turn while providing Dominik additional support against Gunther.
