A new tandem on SmackDown is making its championship intentions clear, adding another layer of complexity to the WWE Tag Team Championship picture. Following a significant victory on the July 4 episode of SmackDown, Rey Fenix and Andrade have officially called their shot.
In a backstage video posted to WWE’s social media channels after the show, the duo stated they now deserve a championship opportunity. The declaration came after they handed Nathan Frazer and Axiom their first loss since joining the main roster, marking the second consecutive win for the new partnership of Fenix and Andrade. Their run of success also includes victories over Los Garza on May 9 and a win against DIY on the June 27 broadcast.
However, the reigning champions, The Street Profits, have a more immediate and dangerous threat to contend with before they can address any new challengers. Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford are already scheduled for a title defense against the menacing faction known as The Wyatt Sicks on the upcoming July 11 episode of SmackDown in Nashville.
The Wyatt Sicks earned their championship opportunity by winning an eight-man tag team match during the same July 4 show where Fenix and Andrade continued their winning ways. This sets the stage for a pivotal week for the champions, who captured the titles from DIY back on March 14. With one official title defense already booked against a formidable faction, the emergence of another undefeated team signals a sudden and intense build-up of contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championship.
