WWE News & Rumor Roundup: Major star’s return imminent, Brock Lesnar’s close friend speaks, Former world champion’s son to wrestle?
The WWE just wrapped up its final SmackDown episode before Survivor Series: WarGames. But, the show never stops in pro wrestling even if a big event goes by.
Today’s news and rumor roundup is stacked with updates regarding some of the biggest names in the business, including Brock Lesnar, who has not been seen since SummerSlam 2023. One of the Beast Incarnate’s known associates was asked about his whereabouts and we got a pretty interesting answer.
Elsewhere, another megastar is set to return soon to WWE TV to begin a potentially generational run.
The roundup also features details aboutJade Cargill and the possibility of a former world champion’s son joining WWE. On that note, let’s look at the day’s top stories:
#1. John Cena could soon return to WWE
While there are other big stars and stories in pro wrestling, 2025 might be all about the retirement of John Cena.
The Cenation Leader will wrestle his final year as a full-time competitor and fans await his comeback to TV, which might happen sooner rather than later.
As noted by WrestlingNews.co, John Cena just finished filming for the second season of Peacemaker, leaving him free to return to pro wrestling.
Cena is scheduled to work multiple events, including the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and the biggest show of them all, WrestleMania 41.
Monday Night RAW will also soon find a new home on Netflix, and while WWE can wait to get Cena back, his current availability makes his highly-anticipated return imminent.
#2. Paul Heyman addresses Brock Lesnar’s current status
He recently showed up on SmackDown with CM Punk and it reminded fans of Paul Heyman’s alliance with Brock Lesnar.
While some might have wanted Lesnar back by now, the lawsuit against WWE and Vince McMahon has ensured that the Beast Incarnate remains absent from the ring.
During a recent interview with Clutchpoints, Paul Heyman was questioned if Brock Lesnar would ever return to WWE and The Wiseman had a typically cryptic response.
“I don’t have that answer because Brock Lesnar is not in the public eye, which affords him a level of privacy that I would never violate. So, if Brock Lesnar is of the desire to ever be in the public eye again, he’ll let you know when the time is right. He’s earned the right to that privacy.”
Heyman has forever stressed that Brock Lesnar is a private man who does not like to be in the public spotlight. Heyman claimed that if Lesnar decides he doesn’t want to come back, fans might have already seen the last of him.
The veteran manager closed out his comments about Lesnar by humbly admitting that he’d learned a lot from being with Lesnar over the years.
#3. Gage Goldberg sees WWE as a backup plan
Wrestling fans might still remember Gage Goldberg as the young kid who celebrated with his father after the latter’s monumental victory over Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series 2016.
Gage has gone on to become a physically impressive human being as Golderg’s son is doing incredibly well in football.
Like many children of legendary wrestlers, Gage Goldberg also has the chance to become a wrestler after college and he talked about the possibility during an exclusive chat with Sportskeeda’s Bill Apter.
The 18-year-old admitted that while he considered a career in pro wrestling as a cool option, Gage was presently unsure whether he’d pursue it full-time.
Gage explained:
“I mean, yes and no, for sure, because wrestling would be cool, being amped up and everything and having all the adrenaline, but then also I know my place right now is with football, so I’m gonna live this out and see where that takes me. If it doesn’t work out, could be wrestling, don’t know. It’s a back-up plan,” Gage Goldberg said. [3:17 – 3:39]
Gage is undecided about his future in wrestling but maybe watching his dad’s announced retirement match in 2025 could help sway his mind.
#4. The latest on Jade Cargill’s confusing WWE situation
Jade Cargill was written off TV last week on SmackDown and there still isn’t complete clarity over her absence.
As we’d reported earlier, three different versions are going around backstage regarding the actual story behind Jade Cargill being pulled from TV. Is she injured or not? Every fan is wondering about the same.
Bryan Alvarez provided an update on The Wrestling Observer Live and revealed that the word within WWE is now that Cargill’s injury is a work and not real.
Alvarez claimed that people behind the scenes were also aware of the truth and stated the answer would vary depending on who you’d ask. Personally, Alvarez believed Cargill was legitimately hurt:
“We were initially told she is legitimately injured and she will be out a while…yesterday, all of a sudden it’s, ‘Nah, it’s all a work.’ I would bet you if you did ask some people in WWE, they would say that it’s a work because that is what they believe. I’m telling you that she is injured. When she will be back, I do not know.”
Whatever the reason may be for her sudden disappearance, WWE has turned Jade Cargill’s unexplained situation into a story, and in time, fans should get the required answers.
