Brock Lesnar has not wrestled for WWE since losing to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2023. Vince Russo, WWE’s former head writer, recently gave his thoughts on whether The Beast Incarnate could return in 2025.
Lesnar became one of WWE’s highest-paid wrestlers when he rejoined the company in 2012 after an eight-year absence. During his latest in-ring hiatus, WWE has broken several revenue records and sold out dozens of shows.
Russo spoke about Lesnar’s status alongside host Dr. Chris Featherstone on the latest episode of Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Writing With Russo. He speculated that the 10-time WWE world champion might not return due to his high financial demands:
“If business, and I’m talking dollars and cents, is the same in 2025 as it was in 2024, Chris, they don’t need him,” Russo said. “It’s that simple. And why are they gonna pay him the type of money that he’s asking for if they don’t need him? If things fall off the deep end, that’s a completely different story, but if they continue to print money the way they’re printing money, there’s no reason to pay him that kind of money.” [1:09 – 1:45]
After an eight-month break, Becky Lynch is set to return to WWE television soon. Like Lesnar, Russo thinks finances probably played a part in WWE delaying The Man’s comeback:
“I think that’s a big reason why we haven’t seen Becky. Becky’s probably asking for an exorbitant amount of money. ‘Why are we gonna give her that? Look at what we’re making.'” [1:46 – 1:59]

Vince Russo questions WWE’s Brock Lesnar motivation
In April 2023, Endeavor acquired WWE for $9.3 billion before merging the company with UFC to form TKO Group Holdings.
According to Vince Russo, TKO higher-ups likely see no reason to bring Brock Lesnar back when WWE is thriving without him:
“You know, bro, Endeavor, it’s all black and red, man, and when you look at the money they spent on the WWE, bro, they need to make that money back, and if Brock Lesnar is the highest-paid guy on the roster and they’re doing fine without him, what’s the motivation?” [3:44 – 4:04]
In January 2024, Lesnar was seemingly alluded to in Janel Grant’s lawsuit against former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Grant claimed McMahon told her to create explicit content for “a world-famous athlete and former UFC Heavyweight Champion.”
