WWE unveils Women’s Intercontinental Championship before RAW
A new era for women’s wrestling emerged tonight as WWE introduced the Women’s Intercontinental Championship during the pre-show moments of RAW in Arizona. RAW General Manager Adam Pearce presented the new title to an enthusiastic live audience before the broadcast began.
The reveal comes as WWE continues to expand its women’s division championships, following SmackDown’s recent introduction of the Women’s United States Championship. While a tournament is currently underway on the blue brand to crown its first champion, WWE has yet to make any official announcements regarding the path to crowning the inaugural Women’s Intercontinental Champion.
The Women’s United States Championship tournament has already seen significant progress, with Bayley and Chelsea Green advancing to the semi-finals. The remaining contestants, including Tiffany Stratton, Naomi, Elektra Lopez, Piper Niven, Michin, and potentially Jade Cargill, will compete in upcoming triple-threat matches to determine the other semi-finalists. The tournament will reach its conclusion at Saturday Night Main Event on December 14, 2024.
Netflix prepares historic WWE RAW debut with star-studded lineup
As WWE introduces new championships, the company is also preparing for a revolutionary change in its broadcasting landscape. Netflix is set to become the new home of Monday Night RAW starting January 6, 2025, with the debut episode broadcasting live from the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
The announcement, made by Paul “Triple H” Levesque alongside Travis Scott during the rapper’s Las Vegas concert, included the news that Scott will provide RAW’s new theme song. The streaming platform promises appearances from John Cena, Roman Reigns, Bianca Belair, and Cody Rhodes among other superstars for the premiere episode.
This historic move coincides with the closure of WWE Network on January 1, 2025, marking the end of an era that began in February 2014. Netflix will become the exclusive streaming destination for WWE content, including major events like WrestleMania, SmackDown, NXT, SummerSlam, and Royal Rumble.
