WWE veteran explains why AEW Rampage ended disastrously (Exclusive)

AEW recently closed the door on one of its shows, Rampage, for various reasons. When asked how this may have happened, WWE veteran Vince Russo had quite a straightforward answer.

Rampage aired its final edition on December 27, 2024, closing on a rather violent note, courtesy of Jon Moxley. In the closing moments of the episode, The Death Riders came out, and Moxley seemingly put out a challenge to confront him. This eventually led to much of the locker room being in the ring and brawling until the show went off-air.

On Sportskeeda’s Writing with Russo, Vince Russo was asked to share his thoughts on why Rampage ended. He said:

“I always said that the key to my success, you know, with WWE, TNA, WCW, was always consistent good shows week after week after week. I think it was the opposite for AEW. I think it was consistently bad shows week after week after week that has led to a dramatic drop in audience. Chris, Vince McMahon made it real simple for me. If it’s good, they will watch it.” [5:25 onwards]

Tony Khan was asked about potential roster cuts after AEW Rampage ended

Since its inception, Rampage has been an integral part of the company’s programming schedule, and its end could result in significant changes.

In a media call, Josh Nason asked Tony Khan if the end of Rampage could lead to roster cuts in the near future. While the AEW President admitted that it was an important question, he abstained from giving a definite answer and said that the company had not yet decided on the details of the decision.

As of now, it remains to be seen what the Jacksonville-based promotion plans to do next.
