AEW Rampage recently aired its final episode in December 2024 after around three years of programming. This has raised questions about the company’s current state, prompting WWE veteran Vince Russo to make some interesting comments.
It is no secret that the Jacksonville-based promotion has been struggling with dwindling viewership in recent months. When talking about the issue, renowned journalist Dave Meltzer made a few comments, including how Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer could possibly have affected the viewership of All Elite shows. This, according to Vince Russo, was not a sensible perspective.
Speaking on Sportskeeda’s Writing with Russo, the WWE veteran stated:
“Meltzer said that in regards to AEW’s bad number… Can you imagine? We are now comparing wrestling to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. You never dared say to Vince something else was on the other channel. Because Vince made it clear to me, bro, if it’s good, they will watch it. I don’t care what else is on. And that still rings true to this day, Chris.” [6:09 onwards]

The WWE veteran did not agree with Dave Meltzer’s comments about AEW
While Dave Meltzer has extensive knowledge of the pro wrestling industry, Vince Russo said he was completely wrong about Tony Khan’s company’s current state.
Adding to his comments on the Writing with Russo, the WWE veteran stated:
“This is what he’s saying. Let’s really break this down. AEW did a bad number because people that usually watch AEW went to watch Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer instead. I mean, that’s basically what he is saying. Rudolph did a strong number because the fans decided to go watch Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” [9:15 onwards]
As of now, it remains to be seen how Tony Khan plans to get out of the slump and improve his brand. Fans are expecting big things from the company this year, and only time will tell if they will get to see what they want.
