WWE veteran optimistic about new top rivalry
LA Knight’s reign as WWE United States Champion took a new creative direction this week, with Dutch Mantell expressing his satisfaction with the events during Friday Night SmackDown.
Knight was confronted by Legado Del Fantasma, opening the door for Berto to showcase his potential. Although he didn’t capture the title, the former NXT star delivered a great performance according to Mantell.
During his appearance on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Smack Talk, the former WWE manager shared his satisfaction in seeing Berto receive this opportunity:
“Well, it was about time. Give him a chance. Put him with a well-established guy like Knight and see what he can do. There’s no doubt about his talent, and he’s good on the microphone. He held his own with Knight and had a good match, of course, they worked the angle afterward, but that’s another story.”
After the match, Shinsuke Nakamura returned and attacked Knight, making his intentions for the United States Championship clear. Mantell showed interest in the development of this storyline:
“I’m interested to see where they go with this [Nakamura vs Knight]. It was like the third highlight of the show for me, and the highlights of the show aren’t the matches, but the interviews and everything they do. I’m totally a story guy.”
Nakamura, who has already been United States Champion twice, seems more motivated than ever to add another reign to his resume.
