Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods turned heel on the December 2 episode of WWE RAW after rejecting Big E’s offer to manage The New Day. Vince Russo, WWE’s former head writer, is not convinced Woods will ever become a top star as a singles competitor.

Kingston and Big E captured the WWE Championship in 2019 and 2021, respectively. Woods also experienced success as a singles talent when he won the 2021 King of the Ring tournament. However, he has never held a world title.

Russo appeared on Sportskeeda’s The Wrestling Outlaws alongside host Dr. Chris Featherstone and former WWE star EC3. Asked if Woods is a possible main event talent, the one-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion made his thoughts clear:

“No, not at this point,” Russo said. “Maybe early on, bro. I don’t think at this point, I really don’t.” [6:51 – 6:58]

Russo’s comments were filmed before Kingston and Woods turned heel and separated from Big E on RAW.

EC3 on Xavier Woods’ top star potential

In the early 2010s, EC3 and Xavier Woods were part of WWE’s Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) developmental system.

EC3, known in those days as Derrick Bateman, believes Woods is capable of being a world champion if WWE’s decision-makers tell the right story:

“It depends how committed he would be and the company would be behind it. He’s right, it’s been a long time, but I think if there was a true commitment to it, this dude has the chops to pull it off if everybody’s all in.” [6:59 – 7:15]

Woods unsuccessfully challenged Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship at non-televised events after WrestleMania XL. He also lost an Intercontinental Championship match against Jey Uso on the October 7 episode of RAW.
