“Your best babyface wrestler” – Veteran very unhappy with Tony Khan over top AEW star’s booking

Tony Khan’s AEW booking usually gets mixed reactions from the fans and experts of professional wrestling. WCW veteran Disco Inferno recently shared his displeasure with Will Ospreay’s direction in the Jacksonville-based promotion.

Will Ospreay signed with AEW in 2023 and officially began his career in the promotion last year. The Aerial Assassin has had some great matchups and also won the International Title last year. Despite the top-quality matchups, Ospreay has suffered major losses heading into 2025. He lost to Kyle Fletcher at the Full Gear Pay-Per-View, which came as a shocker. In the finals of the Continental Classic Tournament at Worlds End, Kazuchika Okada defeated Will Ospreay to emerge victorious.

In the recent edition of the Keepin’ It 100 podcast, WCW veteran Disco Inferno pointed out how Will Ospreay is supposed to be AEW’s top babyface; however, the promotion keeps booking him to lose big matches.

“This guy was supposed to be the big number one babyface and the guy can’t win a match. Your best babyface wrestler has lost four straight matches.” [From 02:03 to 02:15]

Sabu does not like AEW star Will Ospreay

The Aerial Assassin delivered some of his best matches in AEW last year. He is a former International Champion and could win the World Title later this year. However, WWE veteran Sabu does not like Ospreay’s in-ring style.

In a recent interview on Covalent TV, Sabu revealed that he doesn’t like watching Will Ospreay in the ring. He called his style choreographed and would rather watch a grappler in the ring:

“I like Will Ospreay, I just don’t like watching him. He’s a great worker and a good gymnast and all that stuff, but (…) his stuff is too choreographed. Backflip over the ropes all the time, that’s all gymnast stuff. It’s okay. But as a regular thing, no. Would I want to watch that? No, I’d want to see a wrestler [grappler].” [H/T: WrestlingInc.]

The fans will have to wait and see what’s in store for Will Ospreay in All Elite Wrestling this year.
