3-time world champion taunts Nia Jax, indicates match for WWE Women’s Championship

Former champion Asuka signals WWE return with pointed social media message to Women’s Champion Nia Jax, hinting at title pursuit.

Asuka has signaled her potential in-ring return through a strategic social media post targeting Nia Jax. The former SmackDown Women’s Champion has been sidelined since May following knee surgery.

At Backlash 2024, Asuka and Kairi Sane lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship to Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill. Using her X account, the Japanese competitor shared an image combining the first two steps of the Heimlich maneuver, replacing the third with a historic photo of her executing a German Suplex on Nia Jax during their NXT Women’s Championship match from December 28, 2016.

The post suggests Asuka may target Jax’s WWE Women’s Championship, which was captured at SummerSlam 2024. Reports indicate a possible return either on the December 30 RAW or during the show’s Netflix premiere on January 6.

Nia Jax anticipates Asuka’s return to WWE ring

Current Queen of the Ring Nia Jax addressed Asuka’s impending return during an appearance on Die Woche. Speaking about their competitive history, Jax offered insight into their in-ring dynamic:

One of my toughest opponents has been Asuka. She is incredibly strong and explosive. She’s definitely a tough opponent. I love getting in the ring with her. I can’t wait for her return. I hope we fight again.

Internal discussions suggest Asuka’s return could involve betraying a Damage CTRL teammate, adding complexity to the Road to WrestleMania 41 storyline

Update on Asuka’s Return for WWE WrestleMania 41

Recent reports contradict earlier information about Asuka’s WrestleMania 41 status, with sources indicating her return is still months away following knee surgery.

Asuka will likely miss WrestleMania 41 as her recovery from knee surgery continues. Reports from BodySlam.net’s Cassidy Haynes indicate her return is still multiple months away.

This information contradicts earlier reports about her potential involvement in the event. Sean Ross Sapp had previously mentioned she was pitched for creative plans as early as January.

When asked on March 12 about Asuka’s status, Sapp reiterated what he had shared weeks ago. His information appears to be outdated compared to the newer reports.

I can’t speak to her health status or anything like that, but she had been pitched for creative heading into WrestleMania as far back as January,” Sapp stated. “I’ve not heard anything since, but at the time, she’d been pitched for a tag team program.

WWE is reportedly taking a cautious approach with Asuka’s recovery process. The company does not want to rush her back to in-ring action before she’s fully healed.

Asuka has been absent from WWE programming since April 2024. She competed through an injury before finally stepping away after Backlash France.

Her final match was a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship loss. Asuka and Kairi Sane were defeated by Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill at the premium live event.

While there’s no official confirmation that Asuka is absolutely ruled out from appearing at WrestleMania 41, all current information suggests she won’t be part of the show.
