The date for AEW Double Or Nothing 2025 was originally set for May which led to fears of overlapping with WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event XXIX. However, recent postings from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggests that both promotion will not have overlapping schedules. Such fears began when WWE Specials were revealed on Peacock’s schedule.
The WWE calendar indeed shows that the XXIX edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event was going to be on May 24. This date is traditionally reserved for Double or Nothing on AEW’s Memorial Day weekend. Moreover, a second special, Saturday Night’s Main Event XL, is planned for July 12 which falls in the same time frame as AEW All In: Texas 2025.
In fact, we were able to confirm that AEW was not planning a PPV that day, and was likely planning one the next day. However, historically, Double or Nothing most years was on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.
AEW’s Careful Planning of Events Strategy Comes to Light
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter highlighted AEW’s more reserved style of announcing events. This shift in style definitely stems from the house show WWE held in Orlando after they announced Worlds End 2024, which was set for 8 months in the future.
WWE is still ‘fighting’ with the cancellations and distortions that the Double or Nothing TV special has brought during the pandemic. They are blaming these distortions and cancellations on AEW announcing shows months ahead of schedule.
Taking advantage of the crossover appeal with the NFL, WWE Vengeance Day is going to be held on February 15, AEW’s Grand Slam : Australia’s Day celebration is also on the same day.
