Dave Meltzer reported on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that multiple WWE personnel have expressed concerns following The Rock’s return to SmackDown. According to Meltzer, previously established creative plans have undergone substantial changes.
I know that there’s definitely people not happy with the way they had a game plan and the game plan completely changed this last week. But it’s probably only changing for a couple of people. I guess we’ll find out Saturday if they change from Cody vs. Cena, and I don’t know where he [The Rock] fits in.
The report does not specify if WWE still intends to proceed with the previously rumored WrestleMania 41 main event featuring Cody Rhodes against John Cena, nor does it clarify The Rock’s exact role in upcoming plans.
This development follows The Rock’s appearance on SmackDown where he made an offer to Rhodes to become his “corporate champion.” The eight-time WWE Champion told Rhodes he has until Elimination Chamber to make his decision.
The Final Boss character informed Rhodes that he wants his “soul” and promised that all of the American Nightmare’s dreams would come true if he accepted the proposition.
Saturday’s Elimination Chamber premium live event may provide clarity on WWE’s direction heading into WrestleMania 41, particularly regarding Rhodes’ response to The Rock’s offer.
