Steve Austin Reveals If He Plans to Have Dream Match with Controversial Former WWE Champion

Steve Austin has addressed his relationship with CM Punk while discussing potential dream opponents. The WWE Hall of Famer spoke about their connection during a conversation with Adrian Hernandez.

Austin revealed that his history with Punk dates back many years, with photographic evidence of their early interaction.

Oh, me and Punk—we go way back. There’s a picture back from, you know, probably in my heyday, and you know, he’s a lot younger than I am. And we—we got a picture there together, just a young kid. So I think, you know, he was a Stone Cold fan back in the day, and I’m a CM Punk fan. I’m a fan of his work and his promos. Jesus Christ, he can light somebody up.

The Texas Rattlesnake clarified that while they don’t communicate frequently, they maintain a relationship based on mutual respect.

We don’t talk a whole lot. We’ll send each other a text every now and then, but we’re probably really, really good friends and don’t talk a whole lot. And there’s a lot of mutual respect for each other.

When asked if Punk would be on his list of dream opponents, Austin acknowledged the potential for an exceptional match between them.

Oh man, there’s so—there are so many potential GREAT matches. I—I’d have to draw a blank stare and think for five minutes. But yeah, would he be on the list? Of course.

Austin is currently focused on his Mint 400 race and knee recovery, with no discussions regarding a WrestleMania 41 return.

The revelation comes as Punk continues his current WWE run, having returned to the company at Survivor Series 2023 after a nine-year absence.

During their respective primes, fans frequently speculated about a potential dream match between the two outspoken superstars with similar anti-authority personas.

Austin’s last official match occurred at WrestleMania 38 in 2022, where he defeated Kevin Owens in an impromptu No Holds Barred match after nearly two decades away from in-ring competition.
