MJF Reacts After AEW Gets Name-Dropped by John Cena and Cody Rhodes on WWE RAW

The wrestling world is buzzing after Monday Night RAW featured some unexpected references to AEW during the intense verbal exchange between Cody Rhodes and John Cena. One prominent former AEW champion has now weighed in on the controversial segment with a characteristically blunt take on cross-promotional references.

The third consecutive confrontation between Rhodes and Cena ahead of their WrestleMania 41 championship match took an interesting turn when Rhodes mentioned being booed in a company “he created” – a clear nod to his time in AEW. Cena upped the ante by directly referencing AEW’s leadership with his cutting remark: “I make empires for billionaires. All you’ve ever done is steal money from their kids.” This exchange immediately sparked online debate among wrestling fans about the appropriateness of such references on WWE programming.

MJF took to social media with his perspective on the situation, writing:

I truly don’t get why fans get up in arms when WWE mentions or references AEW. Or when AEW mentions or references WWE. If you want to be treated like children, watch Elmo. Or better yet. Tell VKM to start a new promotion.

MJF has himself been known to make numerous WWE references during his AEW appearances, particularly during his contract storyline that culminated in January 2024.
