A recent report indicates a lack of imminent creative plans for Drew McIntyre, suggesting his return to WWE programming is not scheduled to happen in the immediate future. His absence from television has been felt since his last appearance in late May.
The hiatus followed the conclusion of his intense feud with Damian Priest, which culminated in a Steel Cage match at the Saturday Night’s Main Event show. According to WrestleVotes, who spoke on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, there is nothing in the creative pipeline for the Scottish star at the moment.
“Nothing on the pipeline recently, which tells me it’s not imminent. When he’s ready, if I was booking, I’d put him right on the top. I think the guy deserves it and you could tell, when he’s not on TV, like as of late, the show is lacking a little bit. So, when he’s ready, you put him right back in that main event scene,” WrestleVotes stated.
McIntyre’s time away from the ring is serving a dual purpose. The storyline explanation followed his defeat to Priest, but reports from late May confirmed he was written off television to recover from legitimate injuries, including a neck issue he had been working through for some time.
Despite his physical absence, McIntyre has remained active on social media, continuing to build his rivalry with CM Punk. In a post from June 22, he directly referenced Punk, fueling speculation that their feud, which was a central point of the Clash at the Castle event in Scotland, will be reignited upon his return.
This period of recovery comes after McIntyre secured his long-term future with the company, signing a new multi-year contract in April 2024. Reports from earlier in June noted that both McIntyre and WWE are satisfied with the agreement, solidifying his position as one of the main roster’s top talents.
