Even a top WWE Superstar can have an off day, a fact Cody Rhodes was publicly reminded of during this past weekend’s Fanatics Fan Fest at the Javits Center in New York City. A video that has since gone viral on social media shows the wrestler struggling to throw baseballs from a pitcher’s mound at an MLB-sponsored booth.
The clip also captured a fan heckling Rhodes, who appeared to take the jeers in stride despite his performance on the mound. While the moment provided a brief instance of public embarrassment, it stands in stark contrast to the significant professional crossroads Rhodes is currently navigating.
Speaking at the same event, Rhodes discussed the future of his on-screen character, suggesting his popular run as a “babyface” is in its “tail end.” He noted that while a turn to a “heel” is not imminent, he has had conversations about it, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reportedly being a proponent of the change. However, reports indicate WWE has no immediate plans for a turn, citing his strong merchandise sales.
This speculation comes as Rhodes is set for a high-stakes match against his former mentor, Randy Orton, in the King of the Ring tournament finals at Night of Champions. His return to WWE programming occurred at a Saturday Night’s Main Event special in Tampa, following an absence since his loss to John Cena at WrestleMania 41.
