The upcoming Night of Champions premium live event has undergone a significant change, as the scheduled Intercontinental Championship match between Dominik Mysterio and AJ Styles has been canceled.
The champion is sidelined with a legitimate rib cage injury, WWE confirmed. During this past Monday’s episode of WWE RAW, General Manager Adam Pearce officially informed AJ Styles that the planned title defense was off because Mysterio was not medically cleared to compete.
According to a report from PWInsider, the injury is not expected to keep Mysterio out of action for a long duration. However, there is currently no specific timetable for his return to the ring.
The cause of the injury remains unclear. Mysterio’s last match took place on the June 9, 2025, edition of WWE RAW in a fatal four-way King of the Ring qualifier. PWInsider also confirmed the injury is the legitimate reason for the cancellation, dismissing other speculation regarding potential travel issues for the event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
