New Details Emerge on Goldberg’s Son Potentially Signing with WWE

With his father’s final match on the horizon, Gage Goldberg has addressed his own potential future in professional wrestling, viewing it as a viable alternative if his primary athletic ambitions do not come to fruition.

While his father, WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg, prepares for a World Heavyweight Championship Match against Gunther, the younger Goldberg clarified his career priorities.

It’s there. It’s a backup plan for sure. Football is the first priority 100 percent… Football is my main plan. WWE is the backup plan, 100 percent.

His father’s initial return to WWE in 2016 was motivated by a desire for Gage to see him perform. Now, as that chapter of his father’s career concludes, Gage is keeping the door open for his own.

The elder Goldberg, age 58, is scheduled to challenge Gunther in what is billed as his retirement match during the WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event special on July 12 in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. The match was made official following a confrontation on WWE RAW, which stemmed from an incident at WWE Bad Blood in October 2024 where Gunther insulted both Goldberg and his son. A victory would make Goldberg the oldest WWE World Champion in history.

Despite WWE promoting the bout as his farewell, Gage expressed uncertainty about whether it will truly be the end. He suggested his father’s high level of confidence might lead him back to the ring.

Win or lose, he is gonna get the itch again that he wants to stay in the ring.

Leading into the contest, the Hall of Famer has adopted an “all or nothing” mentality regarding the physical toll.

I don’t give a f**k how I feel walking out of there.

Goldberg stated on his Carcast podcast, acknowledging that age and past injuries mean he will not be at 100 percent.

I was 176-0. I don’t have to stand in freaking line.
