Rey Mysterio Reveals New Details About His Recovery to Return to WWE

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio is targeting a return to the ring by August after being sidelined with a torn groin since April. The injury occurred on the episode of SmackDown just prior to WrestleMania 41, forcing a change to his planned match at the event.

During a six-man tag team match, Mysterio suffered the tear in an unexpectedly simple moment.

The guy that I was wrestling stood in front of me. He bailed out the ring underneath the bottom rope and I went to chase him and when I pushed off with my left leg, I just heard a (rip noise). Like, that’s it? I tore my groin like that? And yeah, usually it happens on the simplest sh*t,

The injury required him to be replaced by Rey Fenix in his WrestleMania match against El Grande Americano. Mysterio confirmed his recovery is progressing well and that he also used the time off to address another physical issue.

Good. Pretty good. I started my PT. Not to mention, I had a busted eardrum as well so I fixed that during my time off. I’m on the road to recovery. I should be back hopefully by August.

At 50 years old, Mysterio has recently acknowledged that retirement is “really close,” but his passion for performing for the fans continues to drive his career. Before the injury, he had reformed The LWO and captured the United States Championship for a third time, continuing to add to a storied career that includes reigns as WWE Champion and World Heavyweight Champion, a 2006 Royal Rumble victory, and a 2023 Hall of Fame induction.
