R-Truth Forces WWE to Cancel Major Money in the Bank Plans

A significant, planned crossover between WWE and hip-hop star Travis Scott has reportedly collapsed, with initial plans for his appearance at Money in the Bank falling apart due to a combination of his own alleged unreliability and the chaotic fallout from R-Truth’s recent release and rehiring.

The original plan, according to Jonathan Coachman speaking on Behind the Turnbuckle, was for Scott to be a major player in the main event. He was slated to team with John Cena in a high-profile tag team match against Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso.

However, Coachman revealed that the celebrity’s commitment to the project quickly became an issue, marking the first major disruption to the storyline.

“It was supposed to be Travis Scott, but Travis Scott, we are hearing, is flaking. It’s very widely known, Vince, that Travis Scott was supposed to be training with Booker T and he was supposed to be in this tag match. That didn’t happen.”

The situation was complicated further by an entirely separate internal issue. During a recent Q&A, WrestleVotes confirmed that the dramatic, last-minute developments surrounding Ron “Truth” Killings forced a complete creative overhaul that directly impacted the Scott plans. WWE had already invested in the appearance, with merchandise designed for the event.

“I can go as far as to tell you guys there was a lot of Travis Scott merchandise — designed with his logo and his imagery, with the Money in the Bank location and logo and date, all that stuff.”

That plan was ultimately scrapped. The legitimate, though brief, release of R-Truth and the subsequent fan backlash prompted WWE to alter its creative direction for Money in the Bank at the last minute to facilitate his surprise return.

“Then, the Ron ‘Truth’ Killings stuff happened — and they changed creative. I don’t know if that interacted with Travis Scott or not — but somewhere along those lines, the Travis Scott plans changed.”

In the end, Logan Paul took Scott’s place in the tag team match, while R-Truth made his shocking return by attacking John Cena.

With the initial plans now abandoned, the future of the crossover remains in serious doubt. Coachman noted that a six-man tag team match involving Scott had been pitched for SummerSlam, but his lack of participation has made that unlikely.

I have heard, Vince—and maybe it’s changed now that Travis Scott is not showing up—but he’s not. I have that on good authority that SummerSlam is supposed to be a six-man tag after the tag at Money in the Bank. If he’s not showing up, then you’re not going to get his followers, because his followers aren’t going to watch it. I don’t think the crossover worked.
