Despite widespread speculation following a legitimate injury, there were reportedly no creative plans for Seth Rollins to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase during this past weekend’s Saturday Night’s Main Event. A report from Fightful Select has clarified that stories suggesting Rollins intended to interrupt the main event between GUNTHER and Bill Goldberg are inaccurate.
The rumors emerged after Rollins suffered a legitimate injury to his right knee during his match against LA Knight. The incident, which occurred after Rollins landed awkwardly from a moonsault, forced an immediate change to the planned finish of their match. According to multiple sources, the final 40 minutes of the broadcast were altered on the fly to accommodate the situation.
This sudden turn of events led to the theory that the injury was the sole reason a cash-in did not occur. However, the Fightful report states that WWE had already finalized plans for GUNTHER’s upcoming SummerSlam match prior to the event, and Rollins was never factored into that specific storyline.
The severity of the injury remains a significant concern, especially given Rollins’ history, which includes multiple major knee surgeries. He was seen backstage at the WWE Evolution event on Sunday using crutches and wearing a substantial knee brace. The injury now places his status as Mr. Money in the Bank, and his role in a recently formed faction with Paul Heyman and Bron Breakker, in considerable doubt as the company heads toward SummerSlam in August. An official update on his condition is expected later this week.
