Despite suffering a legitimate knee injury during a live event over the weekend, Seth Rollins is scheduled to be at the Legacy Arena for tonight’s episode of WWE RAW in Birmingham, Alabama. His appearance, however, is expected to be in a non-wrestling capacity as the company awaits a definitive medical evaluation.
The injury occurred at Saturday Night’s Main Event during a match against LA Knight. The bout concluded with an improvised finish that saw Knight secure the victory after Rollins was visibly distressed, clutching his right knee following a springboard moonsault attempt. Rollins was later seen on crutches and wearing a knee brace while supporting his wife, Becky Lynch, at WWE Evolution the following night.
WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Triple H, addressed the situation, confirming the seriousness of the matter while noting the initial assessment was still pending.
“It is a little bit inconclusive but it doesn’t look good. He’ll be in Birmingham tomorrow with Dr. Dugas. We’ll get an MRI and hope for the best, see where we can go with that.”
This latest setback is particularly concerning given Rollins’ history of significant knee issues, including major tears in 2015, 2017, and earlier in 2024, which previously led to extended absences from the ring.
The injury has forced WWE to immediately alter its creative plans for SummerSlam. In response, a major gauntlet match has been announced for tonight’s WWE RAW to determine the next challenger for Gunther’s World Heavyweight Championship. The match will feature LA Knight, CM Punk, Bron Breakker, Jey Uso, and Penta.
Rollins’ status as the current Mr. Money in the Bank holder now hangs in the balance. The injury has cast significant doubt on his ability to compete at SummerSlam, creating uncertainty around the future of the championship contract and drawing parallels to his 2015 injury, which forced him to vacate the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
