Despite their recent encounters, R-Truth considers his business with John Cena to be unfinished. The declaration follows a pair of matches between the two, one at Saturday Night’s Main Event in May and another on WWE SmackDown in June.
Speaking with the Toronto Sun, R-Truth elaborated on his position, framing the conflict as a personal one rooted in Cena’s evolution as a person. He believes the man who was once a fan favorite has lost his way.
“Oh, it ain’t over. He got to turn back who he was. He hurt people’s hearts. That’s right. You just asked me the good stuff about him. He betrayed people, dog. He betrayed you, me, us, them, everybody, man,” R-Truth said.
The core of his grievance is Cena’s departure from his well-known persona, which R-Truth feels has left a void for both himself and the audience.
“He, bro, he’s not giving us the ‘You can’t see me’ no more. Now it’s all ‘go on,’ bro. He’s not giving us—he’s not the John Cena that we fell in love with, you know what I’m saying?”
For R-Truth, the issue has become an emotional one, stating that Cena’s current path has been difficult to process. He concluded by making it clear that, for his own peace of mind, he needs to face the old John Cena one more time.
“So he’s taking me on that roller coaster just like he’s taking everybody else. I need John back. Not for me, but for my sanity. For the sanity of R-Truth. So it ain’t over yet with him.”
