Kenny Omega to Take Indefinite Hiatus from AEW

After a physically demanding title unification match against Kazuchika Okada at AEW All In, Kenny Omega is taking time away from the company. The decision comes as Omega continues to navigate the challenges of his recent return from a career-threatening battle with diverticulitis.

He was absent from the July 16 episode of AEW Dynamite and the subsequent Collision tapings. During Dynamite, Don Callis added a storyline layer to the situation, repeatedly referring to Omega as “dead” following his loss. The time off is confirmed by AEW sources, though the exact duration remains unclear.

This hiatus follows Omega’s return to action just a few months ago after being sidelined for most of early 2025. He wrestled ten matches since his comeback, including the 30-minute main event in Texas. While he avoided any new major injuries in that bout, his recovery process has been difficult, with each match requiring about a week of recovery accompanied by severe fatigue.

In recent interviews, Omega has been candid about his future, acknowledging his physical limitations and stating his career will now be approached on a match-by-match basis.

“What is left, the meat that’s still on the bone, that it’s good tasting meat.”

This sentiment reflects a shift toward preserving his long-term health, a priority that AEW management reportedly supports. With Omega’s absence, he joins other top stars like Samoa Joe, Will Ospreay, and Adam Cole who are also currently away from AEW programming.
