A historic milestone will be reached at the first-ever two-night WWE SummerSlam, as Randy Orton is set to break the all-time record for the most matches at the event. The achievement will take place on August 2 or 3 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Orton will compete in his seventeenth match at the annual event, surpassing a record previously held by The Undertaker. The record-breaking appearance will happen in a high-profile tag team match, where Orton will team with musician Jelly Roll to face the duo of Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul. The match comes after weeks of escalating aggression between the four men on WWE programming.
The previous record of sixteen matches was established by The Undertaker at the 2015 edition of the event. Orton’s own SummerSlam history began in 2003 with his participation in an Elimination Chamber match for the World Heavyweight Championship. His most recent match at the event was in 2021, when he and Riddle captured the RAW Tag Team Championship as RK-Bro.
This accomplishment cements Orton’s legacy and longevity, placing him in a featured attraction that leverages celebrity involvement to draw mainstream attention. While not competing for a world title, the focus on his record-breaking feat positions Orton as a generational mainstay for the company. The current main event for the Undisputed WWE Title between John Cena and Cody Rhodes was shaped at Night of Champions in June, where Rhodes defeated Orton in the King of the Ring tournament final.
