The Intercontinental Championship match between the champion Dominik Mysterio and challenger AJ Styles is now confirmed for SummerSlam. The bout was made official during the July 21 episode of WWE RAW, solidifying a key attraction for the upcoming premium live event.
The confirmation came after weeks of Mysterio evading Styles, using a storyline medical issue to avoid defending his title. On RAW, General Manager Adam Pearce forced Mysterio into a medical evaluation. Following the check, Mysterio attacked Styles and proclaimed he would see him at SummerSlam.
This match was originally scheduled for Night of Champions but was postponed due to Mysterio’s storyline rib injury, which he has used to duck the challenge from Styles. The feud has been a central part of RAW programming, with Styles consistently pursuing the champion.
The encounter is being framed as a generational contest and is considered a blockbuster addition to the card. For Mysterio, it’s a major test of his championship reign against a decorated veteran. For Styles, it presents a clear opportunity to capture singles gold once again.
SummerSlam will take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on August 2 and 3, a historic first two-night schedule for the event.
