Britt Baker’s AEW Future Remains Uncertain Following Recent Developments

The future of Britt Baker in AEW has been cast into serious doubt following recent comments from wrestling analyst Dave Meltzer. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer pointed to the upcoming September 24 episode of Dynamite in Baker’s hometown of Pittsburgh as a critical moment for her career.

“Whatever the Britt Baker deal really is, if she’s not on this show, I’d think she’d never be back,” Meltzer stated, implying her tenure could be over if she doesn’t appear.

This speculation is amplified by Baker’s prolonged absence from television, with her last match airing in November 2024. The choice of Pittsburgh for this potential ultimatum is significant, as AEW has historically featured the hometown star prominently whenever the company is in the city. The situation follows months of rumors suggesting Baker was seeking an exit from the company, with potential interest from WWE.

Meltzer’s pessimistic outlook contrasts with previous reports from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, which indicated an internal belief that Baker would eventually return. AEW President Tony Khan also addressed the situation during a past media call for All In, denying that Baker had ever requested her release.

“She’s never talked to me about leaving,” Khan said, explaining that talent is rotated and she would be brought back “when the time is right.”

That time could arguably be now, as AEW’s women’s division is currently dealing with injuries to key figures like Jamie Hayter and Thunder Rosa, creating a clear opening for a top star. Adding another layer to the situation is Baker’s contract status, as sources have suggested that time missed due to injury could see her current deal extended into 2027.

With AEW heading to her home turf amid a depleted women’s roster, the question remains whether the company will bring one of its foundational stars back into the fold or if the Pittsburgh show will pass without her, lending weight to Meltzer’s prediction.
