WWE Reveals ‘Major Goal’ For ‘Unreal’ Netflix Series

With the new behind-the-scenes series WWE: Unreal set to premiere on Netflix on July 29, the primary goal for the project has been made clear: expand the company’s audience. The series promises an unprecedented look into WWE’s creative process, with cameras capturing sensitive writers’ room meetings and strategic debates that shape the on-screen product.

In an interview with Jimmy V3, series director Chris Weaver confirmed the company’s objective was to emulate the success of other sports docuseries on the platform to attract new viewers.

“I think that was a goal for WWE for sure, it was like, they’ve seen how these behind-the-scenes follow doc series on Netflix have sort of propelled leagues and athletes and opened up to new audiences,” Weaver said. “I think that was a major goal for them. Let’s see if we can get more people to watch this thing and expand our footprint, expand our audience, our fan base.”

Weaver added that the focus is on bringing in the next wave of fans, even if the concept has been a polarizing topic within the existing wrestling community. This sentiment was previously echoed by Paul Heyman, who conceded the series was happening despite his reservations.

The first five-episode season will follow top stars like Triple H, Cody Rhodes, John Cena, and Rhea Ripley, with a second set of episodes already planned for 2026. By tearing down the wall between the show and its creation, WWE aims to cultivate a new generation of fans. Fontes
