A major cross-promotional move may be on the horizon, as WWE is reportedly considering a plan for Dominik Mysterio to capture the AAA Mega Championship. According to a report from WrestleVotes Radio, WWE is “strongly considering” the idea of the current Intercontinental Champion becoming a dual-brand titleholder.
The report indicates that having AAA’s top championship appear on WWE programming is an idea that is “appealing to all sides involved.” This development follows Mysterio’s surprise appearance at a recent AAA event, where he attacked El Hijo del Vikingo and Dragon Lee.
This has officially inserted Mysterio into the title picture for Mexico’s top prize. He is now confirmed for a Fatal 4-Way match for the championship at Triplemania XXXIII on August 16 in Mexico City, facing champion El Hijo Del Vikingo, Dragon Lee, and El Grande Americano.
Before he heads to Mexico City, Mysterio has a high-stakes title defense. He is scheduled to defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against AJ Styles during Night 1 of SummerSlam this weekend.
The potential dual-championship run coincides with other planned changes for Mysterio. He recently confirmed he has commissioned new ring gear and is considering a return to the bleach-blond hairstyle from his WWE debut, signaling a visual evolution for his character.
The constant buzz around Mysterio was highlighted on July 31, when CM Punk publicly criticized the past on-screen romantic storyline involving Mysterio and Rhea Ripley, showing how Dominik’s character remains a frequent topic of conversation in the wrestling world.
