WWE Grapples With Major Issues Before SummerSlam

Severe weather in the New York/New Jersey area has forced a temporary halt to the construction of the WWE SummerSlam set inside MetLife Stadium. The work stoppage occurred on the afternoon of July 31 after flood warnings were issued for the region, prompting a mandatory evacuation of all personnel from the stadium field as a safety precaution.

This disruption comes just days before the massive two-night premium live event, scheduled for August 2 and 3. The weather also caused significant travel issues, impacting the schedules for WWE’s production crew.

As of 2:15 PM ET, a shelter-in-place order was active at the stadium, with crews waiting for conditions to improve before resuming work on the elaborate stage, which includes large LED screens and scaffolding that were seen during the July 28 episode of WWE RAW.

Despite the delay, WWE sources have indicated there is “no concern” that the set will be completed in time. The company is staging its first-ever two-night SummerSlam, an ambitious undertaking expected to draw a combined attendance of over 100,000 fans.

The event marks a major return to MetLife Stadium for WWE, which previously hosted WrestleMania 29 and 35 at the venue. With over 97,000 tickets already distributed for the weekend, the successful and timely completion of the production is critical for the historic event to proceed as planned.
