Jey Uso’s celebrated 2025 World Heavyweight Championship reign almost never happened, as his main event push was once in serious jeopardy following a mistake that legitimately upset Triple H. The revelation came during an episode of WWE’s new docuseries, WWE: Unreal, which documented the internal discussions that nearly derailed his path to the title.
The backstage concern stemmed from a match during a WWE RAW taping where Uso admittedly felt “gassed out” and botched a top-rope maneuver, landing awkwardly on his opponents. The docuseries showed a video call between Triple H and his creative team, including Bruce Pritchard and Michael Hayes. During the discussion, Hayes noted that the pressure seemed to be affecting Jey and that his performance had been “off the tracks” for a couple of weeks.
An audibly upset Triple H then suggested a direct conversation was needed with Jey. He warned that if they didn’t see an immediate improvement, the company might be “forced to go in another direction” with its main event plans, putting Uso’s ascension at risk.
Despite the internal heat, the push ultimately continued. Jey Uso went on to win the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble match and then defeated Gunther at WrestleMania 41 to capture the World Heavyweight Championship. His reign was a planned transitional one, as he held the title for 51 days before dropping it back to Gunther on the June 9 episode of RAW, setting up a new program for the Austrian.
Uso’s importance to the company remains clear. After a storyline injury angle at the hands of Bronson Reed on the July 8 RAW, Jey is now set to make his return at SummerSlam. He will team with Roman Reigns, in what is Reigns’ first match since WrestleMania 41, to face Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker, keeping Jey firmly in a high-profile storyline.
