Mr. Iguana made his return to WWE programming during the August 1 edition of SmackDown, answering an open challenge from the AAA World Tag Team Champions, Los Garza. The unannounced appearance drew a massive reaction from the New Jersey crowd.
Teaming with fellow AAA star Psycho Clown, Iguana confronted Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo in a title match. Accompanied by his stuffed puppet La Yesca, Mr. Iguana was met with loud chants as he went through his signature offense. Despite the enthusiastic support and a strong showing, the challengers came up short, with Los Garza securing the pinfall on Psycho Clown to retain their championships.
The decision to feature Mr. Iguana so prominently on the main roster stems directly from his proven marketability. Following a standout performance at Worlds Collide in June, his WWE t-shirt became a top seller, and sales for his action figures and trading cards rose quickly. This commercial success prompted WWE officials to fast-track his career, bypassing the developmental system entirely. In a June interview, Mr. Iguana confirmed the company’s plans for him.
“Like literally, I was in the Performance Center yesterday and they told me, ‘You’re not going through NXT—you’re heading straight to the main roster.’ They need you here because your shirt is the top seller in WWE, and you’re also the fastest-rising star when it comes to action figures and trading cards.”
His new priority within WWE was made clear when both he and Psycho Clown were pulled from a scheduled Lucha Libre en Chihuahua event on August 2. The promotion announced that the two were requested by WWE for SmackDown and SummerSlam-related events, which now take precedence over their other bookings. This move underscores the significant plans WWE has for Mr. Iguana on its main roster moving forward.
