Bryan Danielson Could Take Full-Time Role In AEW That May Disappoint Fans

Following Bryan Danielson’s guest appearance on commentary, influential journalist Dave Meltzer has voiced strong support for the former AEW World Champion to take on the role full-time. Meltzer praised Danielson’s unique ability to explain the nuances of a match to the audience.

“Bryan Danielson should be out there, he brings all the stuff that I always think that they’re missing,” Meltzer stated on Wrestling Observer Radio. “He just does a great job. It’s not just the stories, the things that he explains so good are the subtleties of the match, the strategies of the match.”

Meltzer’s praise stems from Danielson’s appearance at Forbidden Door, an evening where his actions at the commentary table generated significant discussion for entirely different reasons.

During the pay-per-view, Danielson abruptly left his commentary position before the Lights Out Steel Cage main event. He cited “personal reasons” and his ongoing issues with former Blackpool Combat Club stablemate Jon Moxley and the Death Riders faction, fueling speculation about a potential heel turn.

This commentary role and the surrounding drama come as Danielson’s in-ring future remains a topic of considerable uncertainty.

The American Dragon has not competed full-time since losing the AEW World Championship to Jon Moxley at WrestleDream in October 2024. His career has been largely sidelined due to concerns over his neck.

Despite his semi-retired status, Danielson made a surprise, unadvertised return to the ring on June 25, 2025. He defeated Max Caster in just eight seconds via his LeBell Lock submission, reinforcing reports that there is an internal expectation for him to wrestle again.
