According to a new report from Fightful Select, the belief within All Elite Wrestling is that Jim Ross will be staying with the promotion. This update directly counters recent rumors that the Hall of Fame commentator might be considering a final run in WWE as his current AEW contract is set to expire this month.
The report adds that AEW plans to keep Ross in the same limited capacity he has served in recent months. This role primarily involves providing commentary for a select number of matches during major pay-per-view events.
The internal confidence in Ross re-signing challenges speculation that gained traction in late August. Reports from around August 22 and 23, amplified by Dr. Chris Featherstone of Sportskeeda, had suggested that Ross could potentially finish his career where he became a household name.
While rumors pointed towards a potential WWE return, Ross’s own public statements have consistently aligned with the belief that he will remain in AEW. On his “Grilling JR” podcast, he previously stated he would be happy to stay with the company and expressed gratitude for AEW President Tony Khan’s support through his health challenges.
Ross most recently provided commentary at Forbidden Door in London on August 24. That appearance followed his work at All In Texas in July, which was his second major pay-per-view since undergoing successful surgery for colon cancer earlier in the year.
