Roman Reigns Admits He “Loved” Feeling Competitors Were “Beneath Me” During Title Run

Roman Reigns recently offered a blunt look into the mindset that defined his historic championship run, admitting he reveled in the superiority of his “Tribal Chief” character.

Speaking on What’s Your Story? With Stephanie McMahon, Reigns confessed to the feeling he had at his peak: “Like prime Tribal chief run, or like championship run, same people were beneath me. It was, it felt good. It was just a good character feeling. Yeah, I loved it.”

That feeling was backed by a dominant 1,316-day tenure as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, the fourth-longest world title reign in company history. The run began at Payback in 2020 and concluded at WrestleMania 40 when he was defeated by Cody Rhodes.

While no longer champion, Reigns remains a top figure in WWE, currently working a limited schedule. His next confirmed appearance is a premium live event match against Bronson Reed at Clash in Paris.

His 2025 campaign has been marked by several significant, non-title encounters as he navigates a new role away from the main event picture. His year has included:

  • A Tribal Combat victory over Solo Sikoa on the debut episode of Raw on Netflix.
  • An elimination by CM Punk in the 30-man Royal Rumble match.
  • A Triple-Threat match involving Seth Rollins and CM Punk at WrestleMania 41.
  • A tag team win alongside Jey Uso against Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed at SummerSlam.
