Former WWE writer Vince Russo has emphatically dismissed any possibility of Vince McMahon returning to the company, stating the chances are “zero.” Speaking on “The Wrestling Outlaws” podcast, Russo claimed WWE wants to “have nothing to do with” its former chairman, directly refuting recent suggestions by Bully Ray that McMahon should be involved in John Cena’s final match.
Russo elaborated on his stance, suggesting the only potential path for a return would be if McMahon’s legal issues were resolved. “That would be the only chance he’d have and even then, I think they would still want to keep their distance,” he stated. Russo’s comments align with recent reports from late August 2025 which indicate that top officials at WWE and parent company TKO Group Holdings have “no desire” for McMahon to come back.
Speculation about a potential McMahon comeback resurfaced after his 80th birthday celebration on August 24, which was attended by high-profile names like John Cena, The Undertaker, and Drew McIntyre. However, sources clarified the event had no official WWE involvement, and key executives such as Paul “Triple H” Levesque and WWE President Nick Khan were not present.
Vince McMahon officially resigned from his roles at WWE and TKO Group Holdings on January 26, 2024, following a lawsuit filed by former employee Janel Grant containing allegations of sexual abuse and sex trafficking.
The departure marked the end of his operational involvement after he had returned in January 2023 to oversee the company’s sale, which resulted in the formation of TKO.
