ROH Championships’ Future Revealed After AEW Veteran’s Injury

Sammy Guevara is set to pull double duty at Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor, where he will defend two separate championships following a recent injury to his partner, Dustin Rhodes. Guevara will defend the ROH World Tag Team Championship alongside a mystery partner against The Outrunners (Turbo Floyd and Truth Magnum).

The championship match was changed after Rhodes, one-half of the title-holding team known as The Sons of Texas, underwent knee surgery and is currently unable to compete. The duo originally won the tag team titles on August 17, 2024.

In addition to the tag team title defense, Guevara will also step in for Rhodes in the six-man division. He is scheduled to team with Marshall and Ross Von Erich to defend the ROH World Six-Man Championship against Shane Taylor Promotions, a trio composed of Shane Taylor and The Infantry.

Despite the injury, Dustin Rhodes remains a long-term fixture in the company, having signed a new six-year contract in December 2024 that includes roles as a wrestler, coach, ambassador, and consultant.

Death Before Dishonor will take place at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia this Friday, August 29. The updated card is as follows:

  • Athena (c) vs. Mina Shirakawa – ROH Women’s World Championship
  • Bandido (c) vs. Hechicero – ROH World Championship
  • QT Marshall vs. Paul Walter Hauser – Fight Without Honor
  • Sammy Guevara & TBC (c) vs. The Outrunners – ROH World Tag Team Championship
  • Lee Moriarty (c) vs. Xelhua – ROH Pure Championship
  • The Von Erichs & Sammy Guevara (c) vs. Shane Taylor Promotions – ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship
