A new report from Cory Hays of BodySlam has clarified WWE’s main event plans for Clash in Paris, stating that the World Heavyweight Championship fatal four-way match was always scheduled to headline the show. The report refutes a circulating online rumor that the match between John Cena and Logan Paul was ever considered for the final spot on the card.
The main event saw Seth Rollins successfully defend the World Heavyweight Championship against CM Punk, Jey Uso, and LA Knight. The match concluded after Becky Lynch, Rollins’s wife, interfered and delivered a low blow to CM Punk, which allowed Rollins to secure the victory with a Curb Stomp.
The controversial finish has intensified speculation about a potential return for CM Punk’s wife, AJ Lee. According to a report from Fightful Select, Lee’s name has been brought up in numerous internal pitches recently. The report notes that these pitches “weren’t quite shut down like they used to be,” and that some WWE sources are “hopeful that the pitches they’ve been hearing about were related to that” finish at Clash in Paris.
CM Punk recently fueled the talk by skipping around the ring in his wife’s signature style during a European live event. AJ Lee has been retired from in-ring competition for over a decade, with her last match taking place in March 2015.
Earlier in the show, John Cena defeated Logan Paul in the co-main event. The victory, which was part of Cena’s ongoing retirement tour, marked his 98th career win at a WWE premium live event.
