A Flag Match will take place in WWE for the first time in eight years, serving as the next step in the ongoing rivalry between NXT North American Champion Ethan Page and Tavion Heights. The bout is scheduled for the September 9, 2025, episode of WWE NXT. The stipulation’s return was confirmed by NXT General Manager Ava Raine during the brand’s September 2 broadcast.
The decision was presented as a direct consequence of Page’s actions on a previous episode, where he laid out Heights and draped him in a Canadian flag. Ava summoned both men to her office during the broadcast before making the match official for the following week.
This contest is the latest development in a feud framed as a “Canada vs. United States” conflict. The nationalistic rivalry has been building for months, with Page altering his NXT North American Championship to incorporate a Canadian flag design in July 2025. At the NXT Heatwave, Page and fellow Canadian Chelsea Green secured a victory over the team of Heights and Tyra Mae Steele, both former USA Olympians.
Following the announcement, Heights stated his intention is to make Page acknowledge the United States flag. The specific rules for the returning match format have not yet been publicly clarified.
